Simone Says: You Can’t Read My Poké Face

With the abundance of Instagram posts, Facebook updates, and Snapchat stories at your fingertips, it’s not hard to know what your friends are doing at almost every hour of the day. So of course, anything I put out onto the internet is significant because that is how I share my story with the world.

Everyone and everything has their own story. The way a restaurant presents itself is a story, as well. Between a restaurant’s website, their Instagram profile (if they have), or any other way they would advertise, the way they express themselves shows their personality as a place to eat.

The other day, I went to this brand new place that I feel is worthy of attention. Poké Crew in Englewood, New Jersey is the cutest Poké bowl place around town. Thank you, Lady Gaga for the ~inspiring~ lyric that fits perfectly with my lunch from the other day for this blog post title!

Poké bowls are practically deconstructed sushi, with rice as a base, a protein (like tuna, salmon or anything else you would find in sushi) and then a bunch of toppings, finished off with a combination of sauces. This was my first Poké experience, and considering that I’m here RAVING about this lunch, it’s easy to tell that I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I had a hard time deciding between a bowl on the menu and a custom bowl. I went for the custom bowl, and I went crazy! I started off with rice for the base, then lettuce, salmon, and my 6 toppings: edamame, corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, cashews and seaweed salad. For more flavor, I got teriyaki sauce and honey pineapple mayo. And to make my lunch Instagram-picture-perfect, I got crispy seaweed sprinkled on top. Here’s the famous picture that ended up on the ‘gram:

I also got the Jasmine iced-tea, as pictured above.

The trick of the trade is all about your camera, lighting and background. This day was a bright day, and the interior of the restaurant is lined with cute shrubs and white walls and tables… perfect for a picture! Also, I begged my sister to bring her professional camera just to get this shot; it was definitely worth it!

If you’re in town, swing by Poké Crew for a fabulous feast! Check out their website and their Instagram, too, because it’s quite fabulous. Happy eating!
