Hey there! Like any summer weekend afternoon, you can find me at the newest food hotspot… the newest cafe, the grand opening of a smoothie place, or a newly renovated restaurant. Today, I am inviting you to sit at my tables from this past week; at the end of this post, you will smell the food, sip the drinks, and walk the walk from each SoHo store I visited.
So yes, I went to Soho last weekend. Not only is it my all time favorite place to shop till I drop, but eat till I’m too full to do anything else. My parents, sister and I primarily went into the city to find new glasses for my sister, but we took the opportunity to find the cutest cafe and try it out. We went to Chalk Point Kitchen, where they emphasize nutrition, healthy greens and grains, and blending flavors to perfection. Everything was so “earthy”, green and light, and it was a really nice place to go on a hot July day. While my parents and sister ordered mimosas, I ordered the virgin ginger and carrot drink; it came in a mason jar (which never fail to make me happy). The carrot and ginger flavors were really strong, but they mixed really well. Plus, the drink had crushed ice, which is obviously the best form of ice.
For an appetizer for the table, we ordered from the fine selection of toasts; they had toast with edamame hummus toast, goji berries, and truffle and oranges, but we opted for the traditional avocado toast. For our entrees, we all ordered from the selection of Health Bowls; I had the “Vitamin Powerhouse Chicken Bowl” that came with quinoa tabouleh, cabbage, apples, hemp seeds and grilled organic chicken. My sister had the “Eat Your Fiber Farro Bowl” with cabbage, kale, pistachios, apples, farro, and grilled tofu. This is a lot to swallow, so here are photos so you can ~experience~ this meal.
This avocado toast came on multigrain bread that was super good because it was crunchy and really tasty.
This aesthetically pleasing photo (giving myself credit!) is my bowl with the quinoa, cabbage and grilled chicken.
This is my sister’s bowl, with farro grains, pistachios, and grilled tofu. We both agreed that the pistachios were a nice addition to both of our meals.
For the remainder of my SoHo day, we shopped, walked around, and drooled over the cute things we found. Since it was incredibly hot and humid, it was necessary that we had ice cream. We found the Van Leeuwen Ice Cream truck parked in SoHo, which waiting for us to come and get something. I got the vegan Matcha flavor on a cone (classic me… whenever there’s matcha flavored stuff, I always get that). You can’t really tell in this photo, but the ice cream was melting all over!
Being a Saturday today, it was necessary that we go out for lunch. Craving Vietnamese food, my parents, sister and I found a new place near me called Ma Mi!
As we made all the “ma mi/mommy” jokes in the car ride, we found the cafe and went inside to find a small, airy, light place. We ordered at the counter and had great service as the food was brought right to us. To start, we had a few summer rolls with either shrimp or vegetables. Also, we ordered Bao buns, which were warm, doughy buns with veggies and some type of protein on them. They came warm, which I was pleasantly surprised about, but then again, I didn’t know what to expect. (Notice the super cute sign in the background!)
For our lunches, my parents and sister had bowls with rice noodles and with either tofu, vegetables or chicken. For me, I had chicken Pad Thai, a personal favorite meal of mine. The lighting of the place made the photos so much better, which, being a food blogger, made me super happy and satisfied.
My Pad Thai was warm with crushed peanuts on top, which was a super nice (and necessary) addition.
This was my sister’s tofu bowl with rice noodles and lots of veggies!
That’s it for now! Yes, it may seem like I eat a lot, but I also get 10,000+ steps everyday at my job being a camp counselor… running around with 8 year-olds sure does work up an appetite!
Keep an eye out for more summer snacks on SimoneSaysFood! Enjoy the sun, eat lots of ice cream, and never get a meal without taking a photo!
