New York City, and its food, is Taotally awesome, especially if you get the chance to go to Tao Downtown, a trendy, hip, Asian Cuisine restaurant, perfect for a special celebration on a Saturday night. A little bit ago, my friends and I went to Tao to celebrate a birthday. We were seated at a large round table in the center of the restaurant and right away, service was great. We were continuously served good food and overall, it was a good experience in the city.
To start off, we had some classic edamame, which came piping hot and nicely salted.
After the edamame, loads of food was continuously being served, but here are some of the favorite meals of the night:
First we had spicy chicken skewers, nicely grilled with sauce on the side.
We also had Pad Thai, which is thin rice noodles in a sauce with sprouts and other vegetables. We got quite a few bowls of the pad thai because it was that good.
My third favorite part of the meal was the crispy rice that we had. It came with spicy tuna on top with sauce on a really pretty platter that made this picture-perfect.
Through talking and many Shirley Temple drinks (my personal favorite), we were having a great night. Of course Tao, being the restaurant that it is, had their signature desserts, which were the donuts and chocolate lava cake. The donuts were inhaled so quickly that I didn’t get to snap a photo, but I got a photo of the cake. We got quite a few of them, so everyone two-three people had one for themselves.
When the chocolate lava cake came, we didn’t exactly know what is was first, but as we cracked the chocolate box around it, we were surprised with an oozing dose of chocolate “lava”, which went super well with the scoop of cinnamon ice cream on the side.
Besides having a great dinner, its always fun to get into the city, all dressed up, for a night of celebration.
