Everybody likes to travel! If it’s a weekend with your best friend to your favorite city, hiking to the peak of a mountain, driving to the beach or taking a family trip overseas, the end of the day should always end in a comfortable bed and possibly ordering room service in the middle of the night to help with the late-night cravings. You dial room service and in a few minutes, your order comes on a silver platter and you’re munching on whatever you ordered at 3:00 am.
Today, I got to experience some great “room service”, although I didn’t travel far to get it, and I certainly didn’t stay at a hotel for it. I was fortunate enough to dine at one of New York’s finer Thai places, Room Service. I’m still puzzled with the name of the restaurant, but there’s no question that is definitely great service, as it was a late dinner to start, and we ate pretty quickly because the food came so fast. I started off with a classic Shirley temple, and two appetizers for my table of four. The first appetizer was the Avocado Summer Roll. It was very enjoyable, had a very distinct flavor and it was presented well; when something looks really good visually, I usually say it is “blog-worthy” and it ends up on here, like this appetizer…
This roll included tofu, mint, lettuce, cucumber, carrots and the house black hoisin sauce. The papery skin of the roll added the “summer touch” to the starter and it helped bring the rest of the roll together, flavor-wise. There were eight pieces in total, which was more than enough.
The other appetizer I was able to enjoy as much as the avocado starter was the tofu. It was covered in multicolored sesame seeds and, dipped in the sauce it came in, it was a great mix. The sauce was a type of sweet sauce, possibly honey sauce or a light peanut sauce.
This is a piece of the tofu. The sesame seeds add a hard texture to the appetizer, but it completes the look and the taste too. It was very delightful and helped start the entire meal off well.
The menu was very organized and there were sections like curry, noodles and other types of Thai dishes. Everything sounded so great, so my sister and I decided to order two meals and split them both. This worked out because we both like similar things and both meals ended up being really great! The first meal of the two was a mild curry with vegetables and sautéed tofu. The vegetables were crunchy and fresh, and the tofu had a great flavor to it, which made the entire platter worthy of trying.
There were green beans which were very fresh, the red peppers were really good and, thankfully, the curry wasn’t too hot because I am NOT a spice lover and I definitely cannot handle anything too hot.
The other dish my sister and I shared was a noodle dish. The noodles were flat, wide and thin, but still filled me up. They were mixed into brown sauce and vegetables, like broccoli, peppers, onions, carrots and bok choi. The noodles were flimsy, but that’s the art of the dish, and I liked it exactly how it came.
The bowls and dishes that the food came in were different and they contributed to the complete look. It was very appetizing and very inviting. My sister and I enjoyed this dish, too.
At the end of the night, I got some great service at Room Service. The meal came out surprisingly fast and my Shirley temple was really good, and that’s all that matters! I hope you’re spending your days eating out with friends and family and just enjoying yourself because we all love doing things we like, and for me, that’s eating! (Hahaha and maybe add a workout or a walk on the beach once in a while!)
