Hello food lovers! Simone here, with quite the update on my favorite eats these past few weeks. Since I’ve last written, I’ve had a very special birthday, spent quite a few days in New York City (food heaven), and found some new cute cafes in the area. The weather has been great, everyone is happy and there’s nothing a good meal can’t do. Whether it’s bringing friends together, brightening a mood (because let’s face it – being hangry is a problem) or simply being a lunch take-out, food always brings a smile to a face, especially mine. A few birthday celebrations complement a good meal, too. So, here’s my latest additions to the diet, which range from NYC Saturday night dinners to Chelsea Market lunches to brunches from all over.
Of course for a friend’s birthday, we went to dinner in the city. We went to Vandal New York, which is this hip place where the walls are painted with abstract designs and bachelorette parties were gathering at every other table. We got some amazing plates for the table, some in which include round dumplings, chicken and waffles, mushroom and feta cheese pizza, donuts and a caramel/graham cracker pie with a candle in it for the birthday girl. Here are some snaps:
These were the unbelievable donuts that came with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream (my favorite!) The crushed pistachios really topped it off nicely.
This mushroom pizza was a great option for sharing, besides just being delicious.
Any meal in the city is fun, especially when you’re dressed up and are celebrating with friends!
The next celebration was the greatest one of all… no big deal but… my birthday!! It wasn’t just a birthday, but the sweetest of all birthdays because it was my 16th birthday! I took twelve of my friends out to this incredible place in Fort Lee, NJ called City Perch. I went once before for my sister’s birthday and I knew that they could accommodate me and my rowdy group of friends. We had this awesome table in the center of the restaurant with great service. I could tell that this was their first birthday celebration of a teenage girl (they were a new restaurant at the time) but they performed beautifully. Here are some of my favorite parts of my birthday dinner:
I split this chicken dish with a friend; I usually wouldn’t get chicken at a place like this, but I can’t resist the spices and seasoning, plus the roasted cauliflower. This meal is amazing.
For dessert, we had this fried donut, but instead of being dough inside, there was chocolate like a lava cake!!! My favorite dessert inside of a donut, topped with a pistachio brittle made the perfect dessert to put a candle in!!
Of course, though, my birthday celebration didn’t end there… my next post will be about the incredible gift my sister gave me!
So long and farewell, but not for long. Stay tuned for more mouth-watering posts!
