As John Mayer once said in his song, “Daughters”, “Fathers, be good to your daughters, Daughters will love like you do”, meaning fathers and daughters should have a special bond between each other. Especially for me, that special bond exists between my dad and I. We certainly do extraneous things together and I’m forever grateful for that.
This picture is us looking upon the Teton Mountains in Wyoming, our happy place.
To celebrate my dad and everything he does for us, my sister, brother and mom went out to dinner with daddy. We stayed local, and we went to Zestt in Tenafly, NJ for father’s day. Personally, I’ve only been there once before Father’s day, but my parents go there all the time, so the owner knows my family well. The owner is one that helps around the restaurant and makes it his goal to get to know everyone eating at his place. Zestt is a Mediterranean place, where hummus is a must, with some pita as well.
To start off, we had the Mediterranean platter, which came with toasted pita, falafel, and a bunch of spreads, including hummus and tahini. Here’s a snap:
All of the spreads were really good, and even the pita was nicely seasoned and toasted.
Also to start, we got the tuna tartare. Here’s a snap:
It came with wasabi sauce, soy sauce, and sriracha sauce.
Knowing my family, we like to eat, so we (meaning I) got avocado toast for another appetizer as well. All I can say is: wow – it was so good and I honestly don’t think I’ve ever had better ‘cado toast. Here’s a picture:
It came on slices of toasted bread, with spicy pepper flakes on top. Also, there wasn’t just a little avocado on it; there was a good amount on each slice of bread to make it the perfect appetizer.
After we finally finished the appetizers, we got our meals. My dad got lamb chops (his personal favorite) and I got pasta with shrimp. The shrimp was grilled and the pasta was in a garlic sauce with other seasonings too. It was so good and there was plenty of food, so we didn’t go hungry. Here’s a snap of my entree:
It was beautifully displayed and certainly tasted as good as it looked.
By the time we were finished with our meal, dessert wasn’t even a thought. We were so full that the chocolate cake couldn’t even find its way onto our table. But, knowing my dad and it being a special occasion, we had to get some dessert. So, dad ordered his favorite dessert, baklava. I didn’t get to snap a photo of it because we inhaled it quickly, but it was crispy pastry layers with apples and nuts and lots of cinnamon and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
Thanks, dad, for everything you do for us. Zestt was the perfect place to dine and celebrate Father’s day with the entire family, which was a treat as my siblings are in/out of college and it’s hard for us to get together. A big thank you to fathers everywhere, for “being good to your daughters” (again, quoting John Mayer!). Love you.
