Welcome to the all-new Simone Says Food: a new online experience dedicated to sharing the healthy and not-so-healthy #eats, with a bit of this and that, and anything and everything in between. I'm using this summer to tackle building this new website while working great jobs spanning from the restaurant industry to playing around in the world of sales. With that being said, I'm excited to share all that's to come.
Welcome!
To share my excitement for this new chapter of the blog, I'd like to take the opportunity to share some of the best pizza this summer.
First up is Santucci's, specifically its newest location in Ventnor City, NJ. The iconic South Philadelphia staple made its way down the Jersey shore, so I had to see for myself what the hype was about. And they didn't disappoint.
The crispy crust was complemented by their tangy sauce and fresh hunks of mozzarella. They topped the pizza with tomato slices and just the right mix of seasonings that it made for a mouth-watering bite every time. The golden crust made for the right crunch; however, I usually prefer a crust a little less cooked, but because I wanted to see how their "OG" pizza was like, I figured I'd give it a try.
Next is a Margate staple: Bocca. Serving as the neighborhood favorite is an easy task for them, especially as their extensive menu covers anything you could ever want, and they're located a block from my house. My friend and I ordered the Nonna pizza, which is Bocca's take on the classic Grandma's pizza: perfect, chunky tomato sauce with fresh mozz and all the olive oil and garlic in the world. To say this pizza was scrumptious is an understatement; it was the perfect blend of savory and sweet, and the crust was doughy and crisped. Having had Bocca's pizza before, where I had tried their usual cooking style which is similar to Santucci's, I asked for this pizza to be lightly cooked and I received the perfect golden crust.
Saving the best for last is pizza from Saltwater in Margate. Not to be dramatic or anything, but this pizza was the best pizza I've ever had. Let's break it down, shall we? The crust was thick and crispy, and my dad and I expected it to be heavy and dense; we were surprised and impressed to find that the crust was light and airy, allowing us to eat that many more slices because it didn't make us feel overstuffed. The sauce was a beautiful homemade gravy and paired nicely with the heavy load of cheese. We opted for mushrooms on our pie. And because it was just me and my dad for dinner, this lasted us all week. Can you say pizza leftovers for breakfast?
So yeah, good pizza all around.
This is just a slice of the new website. Get ready for more.
